Vials Containing Solutions, Continued

The needle is placed in the center of the rubber stopper, bevel up, at approximately 45 degrees. This is to help prevent coring of the rubber stopper when the needle is inserted through the rubber closure. Do not touch the aluminum seal.

Roll the syringe and needle to a more vertical position and gently push the needle through the rubber stopper.

Invert the syringe and needle. Do not place a gloved hand between the clean air and critical sites.

Inject the air into the syringe. This creates a positive pressure in the vial that will help push the drug solution back into the syringe when pressure on the plunger is released.
