Vials Containing Solutions, Continued

Withdraw the needle tip to just above the inside of the rubber closure to keep the tip in the drug solution. Allow the positive pressure inside the vial to push the liquid back into the syringe. If more solution needs to be extracted, pull back on the plunger slowly. Take care not to touch the plunger ribs (a critical site) while the syringe is being pumped.

Air bubbles can be loosened from the plunger and sidewalls by tapping the syringe barrel with the fingertips. This then allows the air to be pushed into the vial.

The air is pushed into syringe and the volume of solution in the syringe is adjusted.

The vial and syringe are inverted and the needle is withdrawn. This prevents leaks from the vial and often from the syringe.
