Intro to Aseptic Technique
Practice Assignments
You will be instructed how to put on sterile gloves aseptically and then do so.
You will be instructed on and then perform the proper preparation of a laminar flow workbench for use.
You will be instructed on and then perform the proper introduction of supply items into the laminar flow workbench. (Wipe ampul and vial off as you put in the hood. Open syringe and bags at the edge of the hood and place in the hood. Stage alcohol wipes and needles within the first 6 inches of the hood.)
You will be instructed on and then will perform the proper aseptic handling of a needle and syringe. (S – 5, N – 5)
Visually inspect each ampul and vial before using. Look for discoloration, particles or any other sign the product is not safe for use. After entering a vial, visually inspect the vial for coring.
You will withdraw, aseptically, 5 mL of solution from an ampul. Your instructor will guide you in the proper technique. (10 cc S – 3, N – 3, A – 3)
You will insert a needle through the rubber stopper and withdraw 6 mL of solution from a multiple-dose vial. Your instructor will guide you in the proper technique. (N – 3, 10cc S – 3, V UT 5910 – 3)
You will reconstitute a freeze-dried product in a small volume parenteral (SVP) vials, using Sterile Water for Injection (SWFI) or Normal Saline (NS). Your instructor will guide you in the proper technique. (N – 3, 10 cc S – 3, FV – 3, NS/SWFI vial – 3,)
You will withdraw 4 mL of the assigned product from an ampul. Filter the solution through a filter needle into a large volume parenteral (LVP) bottle or bag. (A – 2, N – 2, 10 cc S – 2, FN – 2)
